Keep the Brown Rice and Raisins coming

Good news!

Last night I picked up 29 packs of Brown Rice and 25 packs of Raisins for Family Table.

This means we only need 15 more packs of raisins and 41 more packs of brown rice to meet our commitment for June. We have until June 12 to collect it. That should be plenty of time to reach our goal.

The collection bin is conveniently located near the lower level entrance of the building. Donations may also be left in the office.

Also:
Sunday, July 17 is the next date for Temple Emanuel to send volunteers to pack and deliver food. For everyone that is busy with religious school and other commitments on Sunday mornings during the school year, this date is for you. It takes about two and a half hours - finish by 1:00 pm. See how efficient Family Table is at providing food for those in need in greater Boston. Please email me for more info or to sign up.

Every bit helps.

Project Manna Concert

Tonight is the 22nd Annual Project Manna concert. It is a community wide event and will be held at Temple Emanuel in Newton at 7:30 PM. It is a remarkable partnership between local organizations to raise money for the Massachusetts Avenue Baptist Church Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen. This is their major fundraiser for the year. The good news is that they manage to make the donations stretch; they feed many people with the resources they have working out of a small kitchen. The bonus is that when one supports Project Manna, he also hears a great concert. I am looking forward to it.

Kids making a difference

Adding more mitzvah to the Bat Mitzvah

Dear R and C,

Congratulations on R's Bat Mitzvah. I went to pick up the food donated for JF&CS Family Table and I saw there were many items there as a result of your centerpieces. What a great way to add even more mitzvah to the Bat Mitzvah. Thank you for your donation. It will make it easier for the congregation to fulfill its commitment to JF&CS during this month when many people will be on vacation and not stopping by at Temple Emanuel as much as they usually do to drop off brown rice and raisins.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,
Julie

The need is great in Eastern Massachusetts

Hello All,

Are you wondering about the need for food for the hungry here in Eastern Massachusetts? Check out the following video from the Greater Boston Food Bank for the latest info.

So we are all set with raisins for this month (our commitment is 40). But we still need 23 more bags of rice.

Please buy a pack to donate when you are doing your Thanksgiving shopping.

Every bit helps.

"A community is too heavy for any one person to carry alone."

I just returned from the annual Site Coordinator Meeting for JF&CS Family Table. It was great to meet other people in the same volunteer role as me. Several ideas that I heard sounded as though they might work at TE. Part of the purpose of the meeting was also to remind us how important our role is in feeding over 500 people each month. We were each given a bookmark with a great quote that relates to this:

"A community is too heavy for any one person to carry alone."
- from Midrash, Deuteronomy Rabbah.

This quote sums up Family Table. It takes a community to make it work.
